Aleksey Kurbatov
Born in Moscow, composer and pianist Alexey Kurbatov composed his first piece when he was just five years old followed by a ballet written at the age of six. As a pianist Alexey has performed in more than hundred cities around the world both as a soloist and chamber musician. He has released several CDs on various labels. Alexei’s performances have been broadcasted on radio and TV in the UK, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Ukraine, Armenia, Croatia, Russia and Kazakhstan.
Distinguished by originality and uniqueness of musical language, works of Kurbatov are inspired by the best traditions of the world’s symphonic and chamber music.
Symphonic and chamber compositions of Kurbatov are performed in many countries including Armenia, Austria, Belgium, Belarus, Brazil, the UK, Hungary, Germany, Israel, Italy, Kazakhstan, Canada, China, Latvia, Lithuania, Mexico, Montenegro, Netherlands, New Zealand, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Spain, Turkey, France, the USA, Ukraine, Croatia, Sweden, Switzerland, South Africa, South Korea, Japan.
His music was performed at the Carnegie Hall (New York), Salle Gaveau (Paris), Grand Philharmonic Hall (St. Petersburg), The Great Hall of Moscow Conservatoire and many others.
Kurbatov authored eight symphonies, the operas "The Black Monk" (first performed at the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatoire in 2014), “Homecoming” and “Krotkaya” by Dostoevsky (staged in 2021 at the Stanislavsky Theater in Moscow), seven instrumental concertos, three symphonic poems, a number of chamber music and vocal works, music for films etc. In 2021 Alexey's arrangements were included in the compulsory program of the Cleveland Piano Competition.
Alexey is a dedicated teacher: until 2022 he taught at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatoire.
Alexey gives regular master classes and serves as jury member of various music competitions. In 2002, after the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Alexey with his family have relocated to Montenegro, where he is continuing his activities as a composer and a pianist.
